Shirley Frierson Blandin

Ms. Shirley Frierson Blandin, daughter of Morgan and Maddie Ruth Benjamin Frierson, was born August 5, 1936 in Effingham,SC. She departed this life on Wednesday, June 5,2019 at her home in Florence,SC after an illness.

“Shirley” as everyone would call her, attended Wilson High school but got her GED at Poynor Adult school. She was formerly employed at Marlow, Electric Motors and retired from General Electric after 25 plus years of service.

She was married to Isaiah Blandin on May 31,1954 and to this union six children were born.

She became a member of Meadow Prong Baptist Church at the age of 12 yrs old. While serving there, she was a member of the Usher Board, and sung on the Senior Choir and in the 1990’s became a member of Monumental Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Shirley was a mother and a mentor to all. Her favorite saying was, “This too Shall Pass”. She was known as the mother of the “Cox Street Family”. She didn’t mind taking care of other’s kids and would feed them, especially desserts on Sunday’s and fish and grits on Friday. If neighbors were sick, she would fix them a plate and take it to them, she would also sit and talk with them. Working in the flower garden was a passion of hers. Most importantly she had a love for “Bowling.” She was a member of a Bowling Team and often travel to participate in tournaments.

In addition to her parents Morgan and Ruth Frierson, she was preceded in death by her brother Wescott Frierson, sister Sarah Mae Davis, son Morgan Isaiah “Peewee” Blandin and brother Franklin “Smokey” Frierson.

She leaves to cherish her memories; three sons Willie Nathaniel (Patcharin) Blandin of Effingham, SC, Frederick Rajah Blandin of Chino Valley, AZ, Laythop Stanley Blandin of Chula Vista , CA, two daughters; Myrtle B.(Charles) Nettles of Effingham, SC, and Elizabeth Ann(Charles) Dunham of Florence, SC.; grandchildren; DeVony L.Williams of Florence, SC, Hajer Ferial Blandin of Florence, Christina Jane Blandin of Florence, SC, Nijel Theron Blandin of Effingham, SC, Charles Jeremy Nettles of Florence, SC, Alex Adal Nettles of Effingham, SC, Natalie (James) Rand of Florence, SC, Rhonda (Paul) Johnson of Florence, SC, Carla Lashonda P. Dunham of Bellevue, Nebraska, Charles Denzel Dunham of Florence, SC, Rodney Pierre Blandin of Charleston,SC, Morgan T. Blandin of Florence, SC, Frederick Toby Blandin of Orlando, FL, Dana Blandin of Baltimore,MD; three brothers, Morgan(Eula) Frierson Jr. of Hillside, NJ, Thomas Frierson of North Hollywood, CA, and Emmet (Regina) Frierson of Woodland Hills, CA. A host of Great-grands, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
