Obituary

Norman Briggs, Sr, was born on October 23, 1952 to the late Nathan and Lillie Mae Jackson Briggs in Florence, SC.  On July 20, 2019, God called Norman home because his work on Earth was done.

Norman attended the Public Schools of Florence County.  In 1972, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  Norman joined the US Army Reserves in 1975 and retired as a Sergeant in 2012.  He graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College in 1979.  Norman began working at Union Carbide, later ESAB, in 1979.  After 30 years of service, he retired from ESAB in 2009.  Before his illness, Norman also worked for Facilities Maintenance Services.

Norman was a faithful and dedicated member of Central Missionary Baptist Church.  He served on the Usher’s Ministry, Men’s Chorus, and was a member of the Faith Prayer Warriors.

Norman was married for 43 years to his loving wife, Linda Nettles Briggs.  Their union was blessed with three wonderful children:  LaKendra (Derrick) Briggs-Talton, Norman (April) Briggs, Jr., and Tiffany “Precious” (Bryan McCray) Briggs.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, son, Christopher Shaw, and sister, Dorothy Murray.

Left to cherish his precious memory are his wife, children, grandchildren:  Ny’Asia Stevenson of Florence, SC, Ty’Bria Briggs of Junction City, KS, LaKaia Talton of Charlotte, NC, Makahla Briggs of Florence, SC, Jayden Briggs of the home, and Ericka Talton of Charlotte, NC; one expectant great-grandchild:  Ka’Mora Marie; four siblings:  Annie Louise Burgess, Nathaniel Briggs, Sr, Bertha Mae Briggs, and Ossie Briggs; one brother-in-law, Louis Nettles, Jr; two aunts:  Amel Ervin of Winston Salem, NC and Betty Williams of Darlington, SC; a special cousin:  Lillian Holloway; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Norman’s physical presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  He never met a stranger or a person who did not become his friend.  We would like to thank McLeod Regional Medical Center, Dr. Taype-Roberts of McLeod Pulmonary Care Associates, and At Home Medical Equipment for caring for Norman.
