Renard “Squealer” Burgess Obituary

Mr. Renard “Squealer” Burgess, age 59, ascended to eternal life on

Tuesday, February 17, 2026, after an illness. Funeral services will be held

12:00 pm Wednesday February 25, 2026, at Southern Calvary Baptist

Church, with burial following in Union Cemetery, directed by Backus

Funeral Home. The family will receive members and friends at the home

of his Aunt Margaret Johnson of 501 E. Pine St, Florence, SC.

Mr. Burgess was born on January 4, 1967, in Florence County; he was the

son of the late Arnold Burgess and Louise Johnson-Burgess. Renard was

a proud graduate of the Wilson High Class of 1985. He was employed by

the City of Florence and later Chesterfield Lumber Company, Mr.

Burgess also assists several construction contractors in the area with brick

masonry until his health failed. Mr. Burgess was a member of Southern

Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Renard Burgess, loved his family dearly and the community in which

he lived. Renard kind and generous personality did not go unnoticed with

He was preceded in death by his father Arnold Burgess, by his mother

Louise Burgess, by his daughter Renara Jessica Burgess, by his aunt

Patricia (Mckever) Mumford, by his Uncle Rev. Willie Lockhart, by his

paternal grandparents Grady Burgess and Ollie Burgess, by his maternal

grandparents Malachi Johnson and Daisy Lockhart-Johnson.

Mr. Renard “Squealer” Burgess is survived by his devoted and loving

brother Ronald Burgess of Florence, SC. One grandson Ryan McElveen

and One granddaughter Ryia Burgess all of Florence, SC. His loving and

devoted Aunt Margaret M. Johnson Florence, SC, who faithfully assist

him as his health declined. Aunt Dorothy M. Johnson of Florence, SC,

Aunt Gloria (Russell) Anderson of Florence, SC. One Uncle Walter

Lockhart of Florence, SC. Including a host of cousins, relatives, and

friends who will miss him dearly
