Obituary

The blessed life of Brother Alphonzo Jacobs began on March 17, 1955, in Darlington, SC. Alphonzo was born to the late Huey and Mamie Jacobs. After many rewarding years on this precious earth, Alphonzo departed this life on May 22, 2023, as a respected man of integrity, love, & faith. Alphonzo attended public school in Darlington County, South Carolina, finishing his educational journey at Mayo High School. Alphonzo proudly received his diploma, and shortly thereafter, he boldly enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army, Alphonzo traveled the world seeing many sights and different cultures. He received an honorable discharge in 1976. Later, on June 10, 1976, Alphonzo married the one that eternally holds his heart, Marilyn Regina Richie, settling in Oklahoma. In the 20 fruitful years, they lived in Oklahoma, Alphonzo was honored to work within multiple upstanding companies, some of which include: Tinker Air Force-Army Base, OKT Railroad, and also Western Geophysical. After relocating to South Carolina in 1998, Alphonzo worked happily, even in retirement, within the many areas of his professional skillsets. He happily did so as a professional plumber’s assistant, maintenance personnel, and last but certainly not least of all, in his most-prized & absolute favorite capacity—as a seasoned & successful car mechanic. In fact, becoming sick in December 2022 is the only reason he formally retired, fully. Alphonzo was preceded in death by his faithful parents, Huey & Mamie Jacobs, his beautiful daughter Shana Lynn Jacobs, two brothers, Charles Jacobs & James Jacobs, and one sister, Azalee Jacobs-Gregg. Also, there to welcome him after God called his name, were his nieces, Sandra L. Gregg and Keisha Lunn. Alphonzo leaves peacefully, to cherish many love-filled memories, his loving wife Marilyn, of the home, his incredibly devoted daughter, JoDee Jacobs of Florence, SC, and two amazingly devoted granddaughters, Mariah Jacobs of Charleston, SC & Destiny Haynesworth of Florence, SC. Alphonzo’s memory will be further cherished by his very caring siblings; Brothers: Dewey (Juanita) Jacobs of Florence, SC, Henry (Dorothy) Jacobs of Quinby, SC, and Sisters: Modestine (Jackie) Johnson, Eva Mae (Willie) Dubose, Mildred Lewis, all of Darlington, SC, Joanne (Sherman) Keith of Charlotte, NC, Barbara (Chuckley) Gurley of Florence, SC & a very special sister/niece, Mary Nowlin, Florence, SC. Alphonzo’s memory will forever be adored & lovingly remembered by his many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins, who will miss his infectious humor & unmatched personality. He has left an unforgettable mark on each of them like absolutely only he could. Alphonzo also leaves behind a host of friends, professional acquaintances, & community members who will remember his legacy.
