Olivia Barr Jackson was born to the late Sam Barr and Mattie Wright Barr on August 18, 1935 in Poston, SC. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Olivia was joined in holy matrimony to Edward Pete Jackson for 47 years until his death on January 4, 2000. In her earlier years, Mrs. Jackson worked on the farms along with her husband and was later employed by Commander Nursing Home for several years. Not knowing how to stay home and relax, Olivia continued to work part-time as a caregiver for many years.
Upon her marriage, she became a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Bristow and Rev. Walker. Throughout the years, she was an active and supportive member, participating in various programs including the Pastors Aide, Missionary Board, and Senior Choir. She loved Sunday School and would always arrive early.
In the community, she was also an active member of the Gibbs Community Center for senior citizens. She was excited to be with her friends enjoying the daily devotionals, learning current information, playing bingo and going on their monthly trips to shop and eat.
Olivia was born into a family of six brothers and four sisters of which she was the oldest. She was preceded in death by four of her brothers (Tom, Morris, Bobby, and Sam Barr, Jr.). She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Mattie Genet (Marvin) of Warner Robins, GA; three grandchildren-Tanisha Michelle Wallace (Chris); Marvin L. James II (Damita); and Tiffany James Dent (John) of Warner Robins, GA; two great-grandchildren-Tavon and Yasmine Drew James; two great-greatgrandchildren-Kaysen and Korbin James; siblings-Rolean Brown (Fred); Mattie Brown (Jonathan) both of Florence, SC; Daisy Johnson (Lang); Willie Barr (Linda); Billy Barr; sister-in-law-Arcola Barr of Auburn, NY; brother-in-law, James Jackson (Mary) of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to her niece Barbara Jackson for all your time and dedication to your aunt. It did not go unnoticed.
