Verna L. Woodard was born January 20, 1962 to the late Herman Woodard and Eula Williams in Thomasville, GA, and departed this life on September 24, 2021.
A lifelong resident of Cliffwood, NJ, who had recently relocated to Florence, SC, Verna attended the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District where she was involved in track, basketball, cheerleading, color-guard and band as a trumpet player, and later attended Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ.
Verna was known for her big heart. She loved children, and often tutored the neighborhood kids, instilling in them her love of reading and rejoicing in their successes and increased confidence levels. In addition to books, Verna loved the color green, being out in nature (often stopping to marvel “Look what God did!” at a beautiful plant or the evening sunset), praising and worshipping the Lord, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and walking with her very best friend, Riley.
Verna was predeceased by her father, Herman Woodard; her son, Jamie J. George; her brothers, Rajon R. Williams and Jamie Williams; her uncle Joseph Williams; and her aunt, Doreatha Stevens. She is survived by her parents, Eula and John Williams; her daughters, Brianna Marshall and Jazzell Holmes and her daughter-in-law, Kelly George; her grandchildren, Ahkim Marshall, Ahma Marshall and Imyah Holmes; her siblings, Jody (Debra) Lawson, Judy Woodard, Roxanne Woodard and Nancy Blue; and many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
